4PM: Prior to 1975 Toul Sleng was a high school but under the Khmer Rouge it was used as a torture facility. Steven Okazaki’s Oscar-winning docu THE CONSCIENCE OF NHEM EN (2008, 26mins) focuses on the S-21-photographer. Also screening: Two short docus about survivors of this torture prison.
7PM: Sally Ingleton’s docu THE TENTH DANCER (1993, 52 min) is a timely film, documenting the retrieval of a destroyed culture. Set in Cambodia today, it tells the remarkable story of a teacher and her pupil who are at the helm of rebuilding classical dance in Phnom Penh. We follow them in their daily practise and witness the preparation and participation of the Royal Ballet in the Cambodian New Year celebrations. New Year is the time when Cambodians pay respect to the gods who will offer protection – and rain – for the coming year. But it is also the time when Pol Pot marched into Phnom Penh. Through memory and experience Em Theay and Sok Chea reveal their story of survival. Sok Chea and Sally Ingleton will attend the screening (Q&A).
9PM: Wim Wender’s PINA (2011, 103 min) is a tribute to the late German star choreographer, Pina Bausch.

4PM: The “White Building” opposite Meta belies a vibrant community, including artists and community activists. We’ll screen three docus (Engl. subs) about this so-called “squatter area”: A. Dewshi’s BUILDING (2011, 27 mins), K. Neang’s DANCING IN THE BUILDING (2010, 9 mins) and E. Lofting’s RED EARTH VILLAGE (2008, 32 mins).
7PM: “Butterfly: An MTV EXIT Drama Production” is a powerful program aiming to raise awareness and help prevent human trafficking in Asia. Produced in Korea by MTV EXIT, “Butterfly” is an original, 75-minute, three-part drama series of interweaving stories that highlight different aspects of human trafficking, with the common aim of raising awareness on the issue of modern day slavery. Q&A.
8.30: Justin Dillon’s documentary JOURNEY TO FREEDOM (2012, 37 min) focuses on trafficking-in-persons issues by narrating true stories of slavery in the U.S. as well as modern day slavery in Cambodia.

4PM: Ron Fricke's impressive non-verbal docu BARAKA (1992, 96 mins) is a cinematic guided meditation, shot in 24 countries on six continents. One of the most shocking scenes takes place in Cambodia, remembering the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge regime.
7PM: „Movies that Matter” serves as an international platform for films dealing with human rights and social justice. The Dutch organization hosts the Cambodian premiere of the documentary EVEN A BIRD NEEDS A NEST (2012, 70 min, Engl. Subs) about forced evictions. Co-directors Christine Chansou and Vincent Trintignant-Corneau film everywhere from down in the mud to the upper echelons. And he keeps a close track on the Boeung Kak residents' struggle, while also letting Hun Sen and the opposition have their say. Vincent Trintignant-Corneau will attend the screening (Q&A). 5PM: Volunteering is one of the best ways to turn the energy and creativity of youth towards development and peace. It helps empower young people to lead, while providing them with valuable job and life skills. We celebrate INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER DAY with performance of Tiny Toones and Koh Thlok band, a Loy9 presentation, a fair of volunteering organizations and debates and discussions with variety of volunteer involving organizations about volunteering opportunities in Cambodia and around the world.

4PM: The percentage of Cambodians who live with a disability ranks amongst the highest in the world. MY VOICE (2012, 20 min) educates them about their voting rights. ENCOURAGE, AND I CAN (2011, 32min) introduces you to a young wheelchair user from Kampot who strives to realize her dream of working in the arts.
6PM: How to deal with the multilayered process of memory and construction of history? Drawing, painting, installation and video are used for the exhibition SPACES OF REMEMBRANCE AND VIEWS OF SOUVENIRS. Cambodian artist Chan Nawath meets German counterparts Anja Bodanowitz & Janna Rehbein for this exciting project, which is supported by IFA. The research by the artists was organized in cooperation with the local Memory Culture Committees of the districts and the NGO Youth for Peace. 7PM: WE WANT (U) TO KNOW (2012, 50 mins, Khmer/English) is a participatory film, directed by Nou Va and Ella Pugliese. 8PM: Produced by Martin Scorsese and Robert Greenhut and directed by Arne Glimcher, PICASSO AND BRAQUE GO TO THE MOVIES (2008, 62 min) is a cinematic tour through the effects of the technological revolution, specifically the invention of aviation, the creation of cinema and their interdependent influence on artists Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. With narration by Scorsese, and interviews with art scholars and artists including Chuck Close, Julian Schnabel and Eric Fischl, the film looks at the collision between film and art at the turn of the 20th Century and helps us to realize cinema's continuing influence on the art of our time.
