Response has been overwhelming for the three-day TRAVEX at next year’s ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) in Phnom Penh. The leisure travel trade event at the Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Center along the Bassac River will feature a larger show with 25 per cent more booth space than last year. At press time, more than 70 per cent of the 450 available booth space has already been secured by some 240 exhibiting companies from across the 10 ASEAN countries. Buyer registrations have crossed the 600-mark though only 400 will be selected to attend the event under a privileged hosting programme.

In all, ATF 2011 is expected to welcome more than 1,600 delegates, including 400 international buyers and 100 media. Cambodia Minister of Tourism and ATF 2011 Organising Committee vice chairman Dr Thong Khon said: “Improving market optimism aside, a significant part of the interest also has to do with the appeal of Cambodia as a destination. International delegates are motivated to experience the country’s rich cultural, natural and historical heritage.”

Cambodia is expected to have a strong presence at the show. More than 800 tourism stake-holders attended the August 31 ATF 2011 event preview, presided by Cambodian deputy prime minister and ATF 2011 Organising Committee chairman Dr. Sok An, in Phnom Penh. The Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia will host ATF 2011’s opening and closing ceremonies. After productive business sessions during the three-day mart, delegates can unwind at late-night events, organised by Nagaworld, Fairmont/Raffles/Swissôtel/TTG Asia, and Pattaya City/Sofitel/TTG Asia respectively.
