As the sun goes down and the moon takes its turn, patrons flock to The Moon Sky Bar in Siem Reap, one of the main entertainment spots in town.
Apart from the ambience and array of food and drinks that see patrons spoilt for choice, its peacock decoration at the bar is breathtaking and very much the talk of those at the venue, especially first-time visitors.
The pink lights set at the peacock’s plumage reflect the green panting structure and draws patrons to the core column, where wine bottles are displayed as layers on the bar and guest tables were where one is attracted to sit and sip on cocktails.
The peacock tail which is built with iron from a Khmer designer is praised by guests for workman’s evident skill which has made the Sky Bar a unique addition to Siem Reap.
Tor Seyha who owns the establishment says: “The Khmer designer who lives in the area submitted a few styles for me to choose and I was interested in the peacock tail design for the Sky Bar.”
As he wanted the peacock tail design to be made out of iron, it required the workers to spend considerable time to fabricate it, and that too with tremendous patience.
Hence, Seyha had to be very patient himself. “This is what Khmer design is all about … it takes a lot of time and patience to achieve what is ultimately required. Everyone involved in this design is Khmer, so they fully understood what was needed to achieve perfection,” he says.
Seyha says that as the bar is located in the heart of Siem Reap town, “if the design is beautiful, it will also make the town beautiful too”.
