Prime Minister Hun Sen has just announced that Cambodia will not take a fee for foreign broadcasts of the upcoming 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia.
The Prime Minister made this decision in the meeting of the Council of Ministers on Friday morning, March 31, 2023.
Minister of Information Khieu Kanharith confirmed the move, stating: “Samdech Techo ordered not to take money from foreign TV stations broadcasting the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia.”
In the past, many SEA Games member countries have reacted to the high cost of broadcasting abroad.
Mr. Phay Siphan, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit, stated that “The Plenary Meeting of the Council of Ministers under the high chairmanship of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, has decided not to charge a fee to attend the competition.”
The SEA Games, held for the first time in Cambodia after 64 years of waiting, is a historic event and a source of national pride.
The Royal Government of Cambodia considers the organization of this event as a diplomatic policy to enhance Cambodia’s reputation.
In connection with the SEA Games, on March 30, the PM last night announced the abolition of ticket prices for admission to all disciplines.
