The 3rd ASEAN Human Resource Conference was held here on May 9, laying stress on skills development towards a greater mobility of skilled labor in ASEAN member states.
The one-day conference was held under the presidency of Cambodian Permanent Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection Ms. Men Sam An and attended by senior officials from ASEAN countries, representatives of relevant national and international organizations and development partners.
Addressing the opening ceremony, DPM Men Sam An said the conference would provide a valuable opportunity to the ASEAN member states as well as the development partners to mutually share their experiences in skills development as well as in labor market information system.
The free flows of products, services, investments, capital, and skilled labor in the region will begin when ASEAN becomes a community by 2015, she said.
For his part, Deputy Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Mr. Peter Brimble highlighted the importance of human resource development, saying that it is a primary element of the future prosperity of ASEAN.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
