PHNOM PENH, 5 October 2012: Japan’s single-largest shopping mall developer and retail operator, AEON Mall, will invest US$200 million to build a four-storey shopping mall in the Cambodian capital.
Cambodian Prime Minister, Hun Sen, said the shopping mall would be the country’s largest and should help to boost the country economy and tourism revenue. He estimated it would generate between 2,000 and 3,000 jobs.
Construction on the US$200 million project will start 10 December and occupy 100,000 sqm of land in the city’s Chamkamon district.”
“The mall project reflects investor confidence in Cambodia and will also contribute to promote the country’s tourism sector,” the PM said.
Meanwhile, AEON Mall Phnom Penh representative confirmed, late last week, that the construction would be completed in 2014.
According to the company, it is also planning malls in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam while negotiations to open a mall in Indonesia by 2015 are ongoing.
Founded in November 1911, the Japanese company AEON Mall develops large-scale shopping malls and leases space to tenants.
