Under the tourism development perspective by 2030, Cambodia will build another international airport in Kampong Chhnang province, some 90 kilometers north of Phnom Penh capital city, Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen said on Saturday.
Speaking at the land title certificate handover ceremony at Rolea Pa-ear district of Kampong Chhnang province, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the new international airport will be constructed on an area of 1,463 ha to replace the Phnom Penh International Airport, which could not support the increasing number of tourists in the future.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen asked those who live on the area not to build any strong building, saying that they will not get any land title certificates. Anyway, they are not requested to leave the area now and they can continue to live and do farming there, underlined Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
Cambodia is expected to attract 7 million foreign visitors by 2020, while from 8 million to 10 million local tourists would visit different destinations in the country. It would thus generate some US$5 billion income per year and create some 800,000 jobs.
Last year, the tourism sector attracted 2.88 million foreign visitors, earning US$1.9 billion.
