Some 2.57 million tourists have visited Cambodia in the last nine months as the south-east Asian country becomes an increasingly popular destination, new figures have revealed.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, this represents an impressive 24 per cent increase from the number of visitors recorded last year.
Popular places for travellers to visit included the Unesco World Heritage site Angkor Wat Temple in Siem Reap province, which has attracted around 1.48 million foreign visitors over the period in question.
The Preah Vihear temple received just over 13,000 travellers - a year-on-year jump of 77 per cent.
According to the report, some 3.3 million foreign tourists could have visited Cambodia by the end of the year as its popularity among holidaymakers grows.
Tourism generated $1.91 billion (£11.9 million) for the country's economy last year.
A recent Lonely Planet article suggested that travellers who make their way to Cambodia summon the nerve to sample an intriguing local delicacy, fried spiders.
