PHNOM PENH Cambodia and Qatar discussed the expansion of bilateral ties and regional cooperation at a series of meetings last week.
The Xinhua news agency reported meetings were held, last week, between Cambodia’s Foreign Ministry Secretary of State, Ouch Borith and Mohamed Bin Abdulla Al-Rumaihi, assistant minister for Foreign Affairs of Qatar.
Cambodia’s Foreign Ministry Secretary of State, Ouch Borith, was quoted as saying that the discussion was aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in all fields, especially in tourism.
“We agreed to expedite the signing of some bilateral documents, including a memorandum of understanding on political consultations, a deal on higher education cooperation, an economic and trade cooperation agreement and an investment protection pact.”
inside no 4The agreements should be inked during Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong’s visit to Qatar, he said, adding that an exact date of Hor Namhong’s trip to Qatar has not been finalised.
According to the secretary, the two countries have inked two pacts. One was on manpower and the other on air services.
“The air service agreement has already been implemented as Qatar Airways to allow flights to Cambodia (since 2013), while the manpower pact has not been implemented yet,” he said. Under the manpower deal, Cambodia will send workers to Qatar.
