First River Festival 2015 Ends with Success

The first-ever River Festival 2015 was conducted successfully from Mar. 13 to 15 in Kratie province under the theme “Tourism along the River for Community Development”.

The success of the event is thanks to the country’s security, political stability and full peace under the wise leadership of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen who initiated the Win-Win and Open-Skies policies, and many other policies to promote national sustainable development, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers H.E. Sok An said at the official opening ceremony on Mar. 14.

“Peace, security and political stability constitute the strong foundation for the development of all sectors, particularly tourism,” he said, stressing the undeniable role of tourism in sustainable socio-economic development in Cambodia, deserved to be named the “Green Gold”.

According to H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, the River Festival was created by a sub-decree of the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) issued in October 2014, in order to boost and develop the areas along the river to become an attractive tourism pole, to enhance quality of tourism services; and to encourage the public to participate in preserving and developing river resources sustainably.

The event not only contributed to disseminating the country’s potential tourism along the river, but also to supporting the government’s policy in sustainable development of natural resources; as well as provided opportunities for relevant sides to take part in emulation movement of clean city, clean resort and good services and hospitality, he added.

The event included a variety of programs including arts performances, concerts, fireworks, a food and drink festival, a trade fair, sport activities and so on.
