Low-cost airline Hong Kong Express made its maiden flight to Siem Reap yesterday.
The airline provides scheduled air service from Hong Kong to China, Japan, Malaysia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and now flies to Siem Reap International Airport on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
Speaking at Siem Reap airport yesterday, Andrew Cowen, chief executive officer of HK Express said that if the airline receives a positive response from travellers, it will increase its flight frequency.
“We decided to fly to Siem Reap simply because many people in Hong Kong and in regions around Hong Kong said in our survey that they want to be able to get low fares to Siem Reap,” he said.
“When we put [flight tickets to] Siem Reap on sale, we had a huge amount of bookings really quickly. We hope that with our low fares, we will cover a lot more travel between Siem Reap and Hong Kong.”
According to Cambodia Ministry of Tourism’s six-month report, the Kingdom has received more than 6,100 tourists from Hong Kong between January and June of this year.
