Cambodia has agreed to put up 1 billion dollar to build an international airport that will cater to tourists visiting the country's famous Angkor Temple. Cambodian Development Council spokesperson Chea Vuthy said the cabinet approved the project earlier this year and construction would commence by the end of 2011, Bloomberg reported.
According to Mr Vuthy the first phase of production would be complete by 2015 and the overall airport would span over 60 kilometres in the Siem Reap province. Tourism Ministry statistics director Kong Sophearak said the country received 2.3 million visits throughout 2011 with up to half of them visiting the temples. According to the news source a South Korean company received the contract for the project earlier this week.
