Guilin wants air link with Cambodia

PHNOM PENH  Guilin City, in the north of China’s Guangxi province, hopes to establish more direct flights to and from Cambodia to open a new tourism market.
Khmer Times quoted Guilin Municipal Tourism Bureau deputy director, Zhang Zhihong, saying a steady rise in tourists from Southeast Asia, has prompted the bureau to push for direct flights from all major ASEAN cities, including Phnom Penh in Cambodia.
“About 10 airlines fly to Guilin city, including direct [international] flights from Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Europe, and we are planning a direct flight from Cambodia.”

inside no 4Every year about 38 million tourists, including domestic and international tourists, visit Guilin City and they generate about USD6 billion in tourism-related revenue. However, the number of Cambodians visiting the city is tiny at around 4,000 a year, she said.
Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Sen earlier called for an increase in direct flights and the opening of more Chinese consular offices in tourist destinations in the Kingdom.
He hopes to build more tw0-way tourism and trade between China and Cambodia.
Cambodia tourism projects Chinese travellers visiting the country will surpass 700,000 by year-end and reach 2 million a year by 2020. China is the second top source for tourists after Vietnam.
During the first eight months of the year, 461,518 Chinese tourists visited Cambodia up 26.5% from 364,882 visits during the same period last year.
Last year, Cambodia attracted 560,335 Chinese visitors, an increase of 21.0% from 463,123 visits in 2013.
