The Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC) aims to boost local usage of barcodes to protect the market against counterfeit products and facilitate exports.
During its annual meeting yesterday, CCC set expanding the barcode programme as a top priority for 2018.
In 2003, the barcode system developed by GS1 was adopted in Cambodia. GS1 is a not-for-profit organisation that develops and maintains global standards for business communication.
GS1 Cambodia operates under the supervision of CCC.
“Since 2003, our members have surpassed 1,000,” said Lonh Koem Ean, CEO of GS1 Cambodia, adding that most products bearing the symbol are food items sold in supermarkets.
He added that using barcodes makes inventory management easier and simplifies export operations.
