More than a dozen promising startups made the cut at SmartStart’s latest Hackathon, held yesterday in Phnom Penh.
A total of 15 teams of young entrepreneurs were selected out of pool of 26 contestants to advance to the final phase of the SmartStart Young Innovator programme, which is organised by mobile operator Smart Axiata.
Divide into three rounds, the programme aims to help university students develop their tech ideas into viable businesses.
Long Leakhena, an event judge and the co-founder of local startup Joonaak Delivery, said almost all ideas presented during the competition were untested in the local market.
“We saw some really good ideas today. Even some of the teams that didn’t make it to the next round may end up creating very successful tech enterprises,” Ms Leakhena said.
