Smart Axiata, a mobile operator, was recently recognised by the General Department of Taxation as one of the best taxpayers in the country due to its enormous contribution to the national coffers.
The company was the recipient of the Gold Award for Tax Compliance, which makes it the first telecommunications company in the Kingdom to be honoured for meeting its tax obligations.
The Gold Award is given to companies that achieve between 16 and 20 points from a set of 12 criteria issued by the GDT focused on compliance, meeting of payment deadlines and submission of accurate documentation when requested.
Kong Vibol, GDT’s director general, said Smart has worked very hard to follow the tax compliance guidelines issued by the government.
“This is testament to their exemplary practices in the country. We hope that this award will act as motivation for all taxpayers in Cambodia to support the Kingdom’s growth and development through accurate and timely tax filing,” Mr Vibol said.
Smart Axiata’s CEO Thomas Hundt said the award was a proud moment for the company.
“Smart has always taken its national responsibilities very seriously and we are committed to the highest professional standards in everything we do.
