Representatives of Cambodia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) are negotiating a rice deal. On Friday, May 18, representatives of the governments and private sectors of both countries met to work out the details of the agreement that will allow rice exports to the Melanesian country north of Australia.
The director-general of the General Directorate of Agriculture (of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries), Hean Vanhan, spoke with Khmer Times after his meeting with the National Agriculture Quarantine and Inspection Agency (NAQIA) of Papua New Guinea.
“The discussion focused on the quality of Cambodian rice … as well as the sanitary and phytosanitary [i.e. relating to the health of the plants] requirements for export and import, and how Cambodia manages … [rice] storage,” Mr Vanhan said.
