Metfone, a mobile phone network operator yesterday launched its 4.5G network and unveiled its new corporate branding.
Speaking during the launching ceremony for the new high-speed network technology, Metfone’s vice-general director Nhong Dinthan said with the introduction of 4.5G the company seeks to capitalise on subscribers’ demand for content that requires large amounts of data.
“With this new technology, subscribers will enjoy internet speeds up to 10 times faster than with 4G,” Mr Dinthan said. “It allows users to experience 4K videos, augmented reality, and video streaming fast and reliably.”
4.5G technology, also known as 4G LTE, is the most advanced network technology in the market. It allows network consumers to enjoy faster connections while simplifying the infrastructure for network operators, thereby reducing operating costs for providers. LTE stands for Long Term Evolution.
Mr Dinthan said Metfone customers with 4G SIM cards are now able to access the 4.5G network, although coverage is limited.
“In the initial rollout stages, coverage will only be 1.3 percent of the total network. We will expand this coverage in the near future,” he added.
He said the service is compatible with smart phone devices from Apple, Samsung and Huawei.
During the same event, Metfone presented its new branding strategy to the public, unveiling red as its new brand colour.
“The red colour conveys the ideas of youth and vigor, and we find it in line with our desire to keep on achieving new solutions, products, and services for our customers,” he said.
