The water treatment plant in Chamkar Mon will come online next year, with construction work to expand the facility expected to end November 2019, according to the Ministry of Industry and Handicraft.
The expansion of the plant will cost more than $15 million, which will be financed through a joint investment fund set up by the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PPWSA).
The project, which began in October, is being undertaken by two French companies, Vinci Construction and SAFEGE.
The expansion of the plant focuses on increasing its production capacity to 52,000 cubic metres of clean water per day. The water treated is pumped from the Bassac River.
Industry and Handicraft Minister Cham Prasidh, who visited the plant on Tuesday, said about 30 percent of the project has been completed.
