Prime Minister Hun Sen joined City Hall officials on Thursday to break ground on what is slated to become a $22 million overpass near the capital’s Choam Chao roundabout.
This will become Phnom Penh’s sixth flyover and will be undertaken, as was the five others, by Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC).
Meant to link the southern coastal provinces, it will serve as a gateway for the import and export seaports.
The construction period will take 30 months and shoot for a completion date near the end of 2020, City Hall officials said.
Met Meas Pheakdey, spokesman for Phnom Penh Municipality, told The Post on Thursday that the project aims to ease traffic jams in the Kingdom’s biggest metropolis.
“Dealing with traffic congestion at the roundabout is very important because it is key to supporting Cambodia’s economic growth,” he said.
