JC Airlines begins China service from Sihanoukville airport

JC (Cambodia) International Airlines, a Chinese-owned carrier that began operations last year, launched a new daily service connecting Sihanoukville, in the Kingdom’s coast, to Guangzhou in southern China.

The new route seeks to capitalise on the increasing number of Chinese visitors to the coastal areas of Cambodia, an airline representative said.

“We decided to launch a daily flight between Sihanoukville and Guangzhou to feed demand from the many travellers to the region, particularly Chinese investors and businessmen that travel often to the area.”

Taing Socheatkrisna, director of Preah Sihanouk’s department of tourism, said the new daily flight is a sign that the tourism industry in the province is thriving.

“With more and more airlines flying from China to Sihanoukville, the influx of Chinese tourists to the province will continue to increase in line with government plans for the tourism industry,” Mr Socheatkrisna said.

There are now at least 10 airlines operating scheduled or chartered flights between China and the province, he said, adding that a few more airlines will offer routes to China from Sihanoukville International Airport before the end of the year.

JC Airlines will use Airbus A320-200 in its Sihanoukville- Guangzhou route, departing at 11:00pm and landing in China at 5:00am.

After its Singapore service was discontinued in May due to a lack demand, JC Airlines’ only other international destination besides China is Thailand.
