The Ministry of Tourism said it is creating new tourism products and consolidating existing offerings to Japanese tourists in its drive to attract more travellers from the Land of the Rising Sun to Cambodia.
Minister of Tourism Thong Khon said this during talks with Hiroyuki Takahashi, president and CEO of Japan Travel Bureau (JTB), Kazufumi Takai, chairman of Asia Pacific Express Tour APEX, and Yuko Ishida, president of Hiroshima University of Economics.
“The discussion focused on exploring ways to promote Japanese tourists to Cambodia and vice-versa, as well as extending student exchanges.
“All parties agreed to promote new tourism products, including creating new tourism destinations, focusing on strengthening the tourism community and improving cleanliness with the application of Asean tourism standards,” he said, adding that developing and promoting other destinations including Preah Vihear, Sambo Prei Khak Temple, and Battambang were also on the cards.
Mr Khon said Cambodia is also focusing on accommodation and food services and the promotion of direct flights between the countries.
Ho Vandy, secretary-general of the Cambodia National Tourism Alliance, said Japanese tourists topped the list of visitors to the country by nationality in 2003.
