Construction of Mondulkiri’s first major national park began on Tuesday with a budget of $10 million.
Sen Monorom Recreational Park will be located on a 20-hectare site that used to be an airport.
Svay Sam Eang, the provincial governor, said it will be a Khmer-style park, with numerous plant species that represent the province’s climate, culture, identity, and indigenous peoples.
The park will also boast a large garden, a gym and a monument complete with water displays, he said.
Mr Sam Eang said the park will be built with the help of national and international donors. Construction will take 24 months, he added.
“The park will serve the interest of the local people and attract international and local tourists.
