Prime Minister Hun Sen said today that the government will convene a special meeting to work on a state of emergency draft on Friday before forwarding it to the National Assembly.
In a press conference in Phnom Penh this morning, Mr Hun Sen said that the government needs a law on a state of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Even though our situation has not yet needed the country to be placed in a state of emergency, we need to prepare it as we cannot downplay it,” he added.
“I would like to call on our people not to be worried too much about this law [state of emergency]. We still prioritise our people’ rights.”
