Sin Chanserivutha, Undersecretary of State and Spokesman for Civil Aviation, says that Cambodia has recorded an increase of 500% in air passengers entering The Kingdom compared to the first 6 months of 2021.
He stated that the total passenger traffic for January to July 2022 was 908,059 people, an increase of nearly 500% compared to the same period in 2021, but still down 74% compared to the same period in 2019.
The increase comes after Cambodia removed all measures and barriers for the facilitation of air travel in accordance with the ‘new normal’, resulting in a gradual increase in the number of passenger traffic and the number of aircraft traffic.
The Undersecretary stated that the increase in flights is a sign that Cambodia is returning to the path of growth towards pre-epidemic levels.
As of the end of July 2022 (period January-July 2022), aircraft traffic (number of landings and take-offs) totalled 12,550, an increase of more than 110% compared to the same period last year, but still down 70 percent compared to the same period in July 2019 before the COVID-19 crisis (July 2022 compared to July 2019).
As for the end of July 2022 (period January to July 2022), there was a decrease of 4.43% compared to the same period in 2021.
The Undersecretary said that in 2019, there were 51 companies operating flights, including 16 airlines from China, and by 2022 (as of July) 2022) there are 26 companies, including 6 airlines from China.
