The Football Federation of Cambodia’s decision over the weekend to scrap this Thursday’s scheduled friendly fixture between the Cambodian national team and Khmer Europe XI has enraged the visiting side comprising Cambodians living abroad.
The 2012 Metfone C-League Super 4 playoffs, which has its third place playoff on Wednesday and final on Saturday, will feature a significant number of national team players.
However, with the tour being months in the planning with many of the foreign-based players requiring unpaid leave from their jobs, the obvious fixture clash was somehow overlooked by the Federation until just days beforehand.
“Everyone in the team is angry because so much time and effort have been put in to prepare us for the match,” Battambang-born Australian Chan Tolson posted on his Facebook page on Saturday.
“So disappointed flying all this way for nothing.”
Khmer Europe will instead face 2011 league champions Phnom Penh Crown, who missed out on the Super 4 playoffs this year, in a friendly at 3:30pm on Thursday at Olympic Stadium.
