Bangkok-based new ambassador of Israel to Cambodia Simon Roded on Monday expressed Israel’s desires to promote bilateral ties with Cambodia in tourism and agriculture.

Speaking during presenting credentials to President of Cambodia ‘s National Assembly Heng Samrin, who received the credentials on behalf of King Norodom Sihamoni, Simon Rodded pledged to strengthen and expand friendship relations and cooperation between Israel and Cambodia during his diplomatic mission.

He said Israel is willing to boost ties with Cambodia in tourism and agriculture besides education.

Meanwhile, Heng Samrin said Cambodia wanted to see better relations and cooperation between the two countries, especially in trade, investment and tourism.

He expressed sincere thanks to Israel for subsequently providing scholarship to Cambodian students to study in Israel.

The two nations’ ties in trade, investment and tourism are relatively small. There was not any investment project from Israel to Cambodia last year, according to a report of the Council for the Development of Cambodia.

On tourism side, Cambodia greeted 7,078 Israelis in the first 11 months last year, up 19 percent year-on-year, said a tourism report.
