Royal Crematorium Becomes a New Tourism Product in Phnom Penh

The Royal Government of Cambodia has been requested to keep the Late King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk’s Royal Crematorium for other months to promote the Phnom Penh Capital City’s tourism, according to local media reports.

Mr. Ho Vandy, Co-Chair of the Government-Private Sector Working Group on Tourism, said that he has received a lot of comments from foreign tourists to keep the gorgeous Royal Crematorium for a while to enable tourists to visit it when they are scheduled to visit the National Museum.

“It is a beautiful and historical Khmer architecture construction of the century that tourists as well as Cambodian young generations have never seen. Many people have never seen such the Royal Funeral Ceremony in their full life,” he underlined.

Located at the open square of Veal Preah Merhu in front of the National Museum, next to the Royal Palace, the construction of Royal Crematorium, a mixture of ancient and modern architecture, was completely built for over 11 weeks, starting from Nov. 1, 2012, with a total cost of approximately US$1.2 million.
