Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has announced that the Water Festival will be held as scheduled after it was canceled in the past two years due to the devastating floods, and the King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk’s passing away.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of “Morodork Techo” National Sport Complex held here this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said Cambodia will celebrate the annual Water Festival as usual.
In 2011, the Royal Government of Cambodia cancelled the Water Festival because of the devastating floods that killed some 250 Cambodian people and affected about 1.4 million across the country. And last year, it was once again cancelled as the country was mourning for King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk who passed away on Oct. 15.
This year, the Water Festival, which includes boat races and moon festival, is scheduled to be held on Nov. 16-18.
