Cambodia on May 1, 2013 marked the 127th International Labor Day, while the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Rehabilitation (MSAVR) said the number of garment factories is much growing.
According to the 2011 Economic Census, Cambodia has in total 505,134 small- and medium-sized enterprises which gave jobs for 1,676,263 people without the inclusion of job opportunities in the agricultural sector whose labors were million people, said MSAVR Minister H.E. Ith Sam Heng at a recent get-together to mark the event.
For the garment and food wear production, Cambodia has some 728 factories and employed 510,600 workers, most of them are women, he added.
Totally, the country’s garment and textile industry paid them some US$40 million per month and their minimum monthly wages were increased to US$80 from May 1, 2013.
