Siem Reap ranks number nine among among Agence France-Presse’s 10 tourist destinations, which was published on May 4.
When hearing this information, most people were happy and proud of their country’s inclusion on the list. On Facebook, many people have been spreading the good news.
Theara Love commented: “Good . . . Cambodia will be known to the world.” Olly Follower also stated: “I’m proud of my country.”
However, there also has been criticism from people who are concerned that the money brought in by the tourist sector will not benefit the majority of Cambodians. They are all proud of Cambodia, but they are not sure if the real situation is as good.
Rady Kong recently commented: “Should be more income for Cambodia, but where is the money???”
Panha Udom agreed with Rady by leaving his comment: “Top 10 of the world, but where the benefit for Khmer people? It should be for all Khmer not only a few of rich”.
Furthermore, others are distrustful about the list’s accuracy.
Leaphy Heng commented: “How trusted is the source of the information. They should give more detail.”
Hence, we cannot say for sure yet how good this is for Cambodia.
