Chinese Investments in Cambodia Reach US$2.8 Billion in First Seven Months

The total investment value of China in Cambodia rose to US$2.8 billion in the first seven months of this year.

The figure was shared this morning by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minster of the Kingdom of Cambodia, at a round-table discussion with six Chinese business executives investing in Cambodia, on the sidelines of the 15th China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning, Chinese province of Guangxi, according to the Premier’s official Facebook page.

In the past three years, he added, China’s investment value in the Kingdom increased remarkably, from US$900 million in 2016 to US$1.6 billion in 2017.

The Cambodia-China two-way trade also saw a noticeable rise in the last decade, reaching US$5.8 billion in 2017, up about 22 percent from the previous year, he pointed out.

For tourism, some 1.3 million Chinese tourists visited Cambodia and 16 Chinese airlines have been operating direct flights between the two countries, said Samdech Techo Hun Sen, stressing that Air China will launch its direct flight from Beijing to Phnom Penh on Nov. 1, 2018.

The Cambodian Premier informed the participants of the Kingdom’s high economic performance, political and macroeconomic stability as well as potential and priority sectors for investment.
