Cambodia and Canada to resume trade deal

Cambodia and Canada agreed to extend an expired trade facilitation agreement signed between the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) and Canada’s Office for Trade Facilitation in order to maintain bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

The deal expired on September 30 and the resumption of the agreement was made during a bilateral meeting between MoC minister Pan Sorasak and Donica Pottie, Ambassador of Canada to Cambodia on Tuesday at the MoC.

The deal is part of the Cambodian government’s effort to support the textile sector through further exploration of the potential Canadian market. The government has also agreed to an increase in the minimum wage for workers, from $140 in 2016 to $170 per year, and is set to increase to the minimum wage to $182 as early as next year, he said.
