Construction of Gold Tower 42, already a landmark in the capital despite not being finished, has reached the last storey, and will be completed by early 2020, the contractor said yesterday.
Construction of the building has stalled for long periods of time and was only resumed in March last year.
Speaking during a topping out event yesterday, Liu Nianxin, CEO of Shenzhen Hongtao Decoration, said the high-rise project is an important achievement for his company and Weimin Architecture, a firm from Macau who is also acting as a contractor for the project.
As a general contractor, we are deeply honoured to participate in the construction and development of Cambodia’s capital city so that it becomes a strong and confident urban centre with some of the best real estate projects in Southeast Asia and the world.
“This building will serve as a testament to the friendship that unites the people of China and the people of Cambodia as well as the close ties between both nations in trade and cultural exchanges,” Mr Liu said.
In November 2017, Yon Woo Cambodia – the company that owns the building – reached an agreement with Shenzhen Hongtao Decoration and Weimin, who were signed on to complete the project.
“Gold Tower 42, located in the busy city of Phnom Penh, is the most significant development in which Shenzhen and Macau firms are involved in Cambodia’s property sector.
Installing the glass and completing the electrical works and interior engineering will all be done by early 2020,” he added.
The 200-metre tall building, built on a 129,300 square metre plot, is a multi-purpose commercial centre with shopping malls, offices and condominiums.
Chea Sophara, the Minister of Land Management, said, “Gold Tower 42 is a symbol of deepening cooperation between Cambodia and China, and will strengthen economic, trade, culture and technology exchanges over the next few years.
“We welcome the old and new Chinese friends who have come to Cambodia to invest and start a new chapter in Sino-Cambodian relations,” Mr Sophara said.
