Chip Mong takes 26 pct of local cement supply

After just one year of operations, Chip Mong Insee Cement Corporation (CMIC) already accounts for 26 percent of the total cement supply in the country, company representatives said.

CMIC, a joint venture of local conglomerate Chip Mong Group and Thailand’s Siam City Cement Company, is now one of the biggest cement manufacturers in the country, producing about 1.6 million tonnes last year.

Its cement plant, located in Kampot province’s Banteay Meas district, is just over a year old and can already produce up to 5,500 tonnes of high-quality cement per day, CMIC said.

It produces for the retail and the industrial markets using high-performance, locally-sourced raw materials with world-class quality control and assurance standards.

Speaking at the company’s one-year anniversary celebration, Aidan Lynam, CEO of CMIC, said the secret to their success is their focus on quality.

“It is estimated that 8 million tonnes of cement are consumed every year. After a full year of operations, we are supplying 1.6 million tonnes, roughly 26 percent of the total supply.

“Our strategy is not based just on profit. We seek to contribute to economic and social development.”

Mr Lynam described the company as “a deeply responsible heavy industrial company”, adding that CMIC seeks to efficiently and properly manage the use of Cambodia’s natural resources.

“We are committed to making a difference for the customers we serve, without sacrificing the interests of future generations. We do this by adopting an active policy of international stewardship that is an integral part of our sustainable development orientation. This we do in close collaboration with our stakeholders,” Mr Lynam said.

He said the company is committed to driving carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions down by replacing conventional energy sources with biomass-fired and solar energy systems.
