Following the inclusion of food street as a category in the National Clean City Contest last week, national and provincial authorities plan to set up designated street food areas in each province of the country.
Upon request by the Ministry of Tourism and the National Committee for Clean City Assessment, the government decided on Feb 25 to add food street as a category in the National Clean City Contest, a competition held every year to evaluate cities according to cleanliness.
The government says the move promotes hygiene in the preparation of street treats and helps attract international tourists.
Chuk Chumno, director of the tourism product development department, said they are working together with provincial tourism departments to set up areas in each province dedicated to food vendors.
