Cambodia, India ink ICT deals

The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications yesterday signed memorandums of understanding with India aimed at boosting the local ICT and telecommunications sector, including the creation of ‘smart villages’ in the Kingdom.

Two MoUs were signed with the Indian Ministry of Communications, while a MoU and a non-disclosure agreement were inked with the Centre for the Development of Telematics (C-DOT), a leading research institution in India.

A separate MoU was signed between C-DOT and Telecom Cambodia, addressing the deployment of advanced telecommunications technology and wireless solutions in rural areas.

The signing ceremony was attended by Sok Puthyvuth, secretary of state at the Ministry of Posts, V. Raghunandan, director-general of international relations at the Indian Ministry of Communications, San Vy, director general of Telecom Cambodia, Shri Vipin Tyagi, C-DOT executive director, and Adarsh Kumar Mishra, secretary of the Embassy of India in Cambodia.

“These MoUs mark an important milestone in strengthening cooperation between our ministries, Telecom Cambodia, and C-DOT,” Mr Puthyvuth said.

“I am confident this collaboration will inspire many more such joint projects in the future and drive the development of the telecommunications and ICT sectors in Cambodia and India to even greater heights while strengthening solidarity between the nations and deepening cooperation,” he added.

After a trip to India – which included visits to the Indian Mobile Congress and the India Telecom Expo, as well as digital villages Karenda in Rajasthan and Mewat in Haryana – Mr Puthyvuth said Cambodia can learn a lot from the South Asian nation when it comes to ICT.

“We are impressed with the Indian telecommunications sector and believe their help will help us unlock our own potential and foster mutual development and prosperity. This is the reason we decided to sign these MoUs today.”
