More than 50 French companies are expected to display their products on Saturday at the French Marketplace.
The event – organised by the French Cambodian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the French Embassy, and the French Institute of Cambodia – seeks to expand business ties between Cambodia and France.
The exhibition will be held inside the French Embassy in Phnom Penh.
It will feature music and arts workshops, a children’s area, sports activities, cooking demonstrations by a Michelin-starred chef and food tastings, according to a press release from the embassy.
Philippe Baudry, economic counsellor at the French Embassy, said the goal is to teach Cambodians about France’s culture and business values, as well as promote French expertise in various entrepreneurial domains, from culinary arts and fashion to pharmaceuticals and food distribution.
He said participants will include companies based in France as well as French entrepreneurs operating from Cambodia.
“First of all, Cambodians will improve their understanding of the kinds of goods and services French companies and French entrepreneurs can offer here in Cambodia.
“This event is designed for the general public, but it will also serve Cambodian professionals and distributors to connect with French businesses since the event is co-organised by the French Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia and the Embassy of France,” he said.
Mr Baudry said France’s has a trade deficit with Cambodia and that the embassy is looking for ways of expanding French exports to the Kingdom.
“By creating a space like the Marché Français, we wish to create more business connections and opportunities between our countries and go beyond the stage of what our trade relations have been so far,” he said.
