The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has concluded a feasibility study on the AGT, an electric mass transit system that could help reduce traffic congestion in Phnom Penh.

However, the result of the study has not been made public yet, said Vasim Sorya, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

“The study on the AGT in Phnom Penh has been completed but the ministry has not received it. JICA will now draw a report and submit it to us this year,” Mr Sorya said yesterday.

The AGT has been hailed by public officials as a way to modernise public transport in the capital and help reduce traffic congestion.

The ministry is considering other projects to fight traffic problems in the city, including a monorail and a metro. Studies on these projects began in May and are being carried out by Chinese firms. They will take one to two years to complete, according to Mr Sorya.
