The Ministry of Agriculture has published a list of agricultural products that will be given priority in the process of meeting the requirements of the Chinese market.
In a statement issued last week, the ministry said the exportation of fresh mango, Pailin, pepper, dragon fruit, fragrant coconut, and bird nests will be prioritised.
To be exported, Cambodian products must adhere to China’s sanitary and phytosanitary requirements and food regulation, the ministry said.
“The relevant authorities of the two countries will start negotiations on sanitary and phytosanitary requirements for each product,” it said.
“To ensure the negotiation is smooth, Cambodia must meet all technical criteria before inspections begin.”
The ministry added that the farms and packaging facilities of exporting companies will be inspected by a team of China’s General Administration of Customs before shipments are greenlighted.
Ngin Chhay, director-general of the General Department of Agriculture, recently said that negotiating protocols is not a major issue. However, meeting the standards and criteria of the Chinese market can take long.
