AirAsia Japan will begin operating daily domestic flights on routes between Tokyo and Fukuoka, Okinawa and Sapporo from August 1 this year.

AirAsia Japan chief Kazuyuki Iwakata said the low-cost carrier’s objective is to stimulate and develop the market, generate demand and provide affordability to all passengers and guests.

“In less than one year since the establishment of AirAsia Japan, we are pleased to launch three domestic destinations. The 84 weekly flights are expected to help meet demand from business and leisure travellers between, Sapporo, Fukuoka, Okinawa and Tokyo.”

Long-haul, low-cost affiliate, AirAsia X will offer promotional fares from Kuala Lumpur to Tokyo, aiding customers to connect with the new domestic Japanese routes.

AirAsia Group chief executive Tony Fernandes believes a strong foundation is vital to the success of future operations.

“With Japan’s aviation market undergoing rapid transformation and developments, we are confident that we will derive excellent load factors and stimulate tourism.

“We’re proud to say that AirAsia today has the most extensive network in Asean, China, India and Australia; and we have the ability to access international visitors and provide them with a seamless journey to Japan.”
