NZ MP wants Muslim men banned from Western airlines

A New Zealand politician has attempted to apologise for causing “some upset” after calling for Muslim men to be banned from flying on Western airlines.

Writing in his column in Investigative Magazine, First MP Richard Prosser said: "If you are a young male, aged between say about 19 and about 35, and you're a Muslim, or you look like a Muslim, or you come from a Muslim country, then you are not welcome to travel on any of the West's airlines", Huffington Post reported.

He didn’t stop there, with the leader further labelling Islam as a “stone age religion” and said he would “not stand by while my daughters’ rights and freedoms, and those of other New Zealanders and Westerners, are denigrated by a sorry pack of misogynist troglodytes from 'Wogistan'".

NZ First leader Winston Peters said he would not sack Mr Prosser nor would he pressure him to apologise, Brisbane Times reported.

However, late yesterday Mr Prosser told a New Zealand radio show he was sorry “to the majority of peaceful, law-abiding Muslims who are not involved in terrorism”.

“'That's obviously caused some upset, and for that I'm sorry,'' he said.

The Federation of Islamic Association of New Zealand head Anwar Ghani said the apology was not good enough but really just a “softening of the tone”.

Meanwhile, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key stressed the comments were “appalling” and “stupid”.

“It's clearly what New Zealand First think of other New Zealanders," he said.
