Emirates has announced it will resume flights to Tripoli, Libya in September this year, more than two years after violence in the region forced the carrier to suspend services.

Recommencing from 1 September 2013, the airline will fly three times weekly to Tripoli, under the new schedule, flight EK745 will leave Dubai at 09.30am arriving in Malta at 1.25pm, the service will depart Malta 2.45pm arriving in Tripoli at 3.55pm.

The return flight will leave Tripoli International Airport at 5.25pm and will land in Dubai at 1.00am.

Utilising the airline’s Boeing 777-200ER, Emirates senior vice president Luc Grillet said the reintroduction signalled the airline’s commitment to the country and expects it to also boost demand into North Africa.

“We have been closely monitoring the situation in Libya and feel that the time is right to re-launch our services, which will help to support business, international trade and passenger travel to and from Tripoli, as well as strengthening the country's overall infrastructure,” Mr Grillet explained.
