Singapore Airlines has set a new company record after placing its biggest order of new aircraft this week.

The carrier has agreed to spend up to US$17 billion to purchase 30 new Airbus A350s-900s and 30 Boeing 787-10Xs.

Expecting delivery on the Airbus aircraft between 2016/17 and the Boeing planes from 2018/19, Singapore Airlines chief executive Goh Choon Phong said growing the airline’s fleet will ensure the carrier retains its leading position as well as demonstrate its commitment to its Singapore hub.

“These new aircraft will provide opportunities to grow and renew our fleet and enhance our network; benefiting customers by offering more travel options and the latest in-flight cabin products,” Mr Phong said.

The new orders will lift to 126 the number of firm aircraft commitments Singapore Airlines has in place with Airbus and Boeing.
