BANGKOk Thai consumers packed the 32th Thai Tiew Thai fair, Thursday, to snatch up travel bargains on the opening day of this popular domestic travel show.
The show will continue to Sunday at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre in downtown Bangkok.
Themed “Tiew Si Wan Chart Phalang Dai Thang Pi” (Shop four days to refresh for all year round) the domestic show offers discounts of up to 60% on domestic tour packages.
There is also an international travel zone to boost the event’s profile beyond the domestic tourism market.
According to PK Exhibition Management Company managing director Krit Pattarapan, the event is expected to appeal to families looking for travel deals just ahead of the next school holidays.
“Because the show is held just prior to school holiday, there is plenty of interest from families looking for bargains,” he said.
There are 1,250 booths at the event — 80% are hotels and resorts and others are tour operators, airlines, car rental, cruises, travel related equipment suppliers such as tents mountain bikes and dive gear.
The green pavilion of Sisan Tawan Aok zone (colours of the east) presents products from six eastern provinces – Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Nakhon Nayok, and Prachinburi.
The Department of Tourism and Sports’ Bureau of Tourism Business and Guide Registration is also participating in the event to help customers to check tour operator licenses in order to ensure confidence.
City Bank cardholders will get an additional discount of up to 35% from participating hotels at 0% interest for 10 months including rewards for every purchase of THB5,000 . A coupon for a lucky draw is given for every THB500 spent.
The top spender of each four days will get two-night stay at Royal Villa, X2 Samui worth THB120,000.
Krungsri Bank card holders will also get an additional discount up to 35% from participating hotels, at 0% interest for 10 months, and a credit refund of up to THB10,000.
Two top buyers of the day spending at least THB200,000 will get a three-day-two-night reward at YaiYa Hua Hin Resort– Sasala Pool Villa –worth THB30,000 for first place and a deluxe sea terrace worth THB16,000 for second top spender.
The fair will run until this Sunday and should attract 300,000 visitors and generate Bt800 million in revenue.
The event is held three times a year in February, September and November.
