SEKONG Sekong province’s Department of Information, Culture and Tourism plans to improve tourism products and services to attract more tourists.
The province shares a border with Vietnam, but tourism is limited.
Lao News Agency quoted the department deputy director, Souban Detsomphong, saying the province will focus on developing more tourism sites, and improving infrastructure. It will have to attract investment from entrepreneurs for most of the proposed projects.
inside no 4Currently, the province has 34 tourist sites including 19 natural, six cultural and nine historical.
There are nine hotels, 30 guesthouses and several restaurants and resorts that can accommodate about 1,000 tourists, according to the deputy director.
So far this year, only 30,000 tourists visited the province, the report said.
Last year, the province welcomed 26,509 visits up 5.30% from 25,175 visits in 2013, according to Tourism Development Department.
Sekong is located in the southeast of Laos. It is borders Vietnam to the east, Attapeu province to the south, Salavan province to the north, and Champasak province to the west.
