BANGKOK Thailand earned a record THB2,676.67 million from on-location film shoots, January to October this year, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ Thailand Film Office Department update released Monday.
For the first 10 months of the year, 585 documentaries, advertising slots, TV series and music videos were filmed on location generating THB2,676.67 million in tourism related revenue compared to 631 productions and THB1,934.18 million during the same period last year.
The 585 productions were categorised as 270 advertising spots/public relations, 140 documentaries, 52 featured films, 47 music videos, 46 television programmes, 14 TV series, nine game show/reality, five Sensitive content TV programme and two from others.
India filmmakers topped the list for the first 10 months with 104 productions followed by 93 from Japan, 84 from Europe, 40 from China, 36 from the United Kingdom, 33 from the United States, 28 from South Korea, 27 from Hong Kong, 15 from Australia, seven from Taiwan and 118 from others.
In October alone, there were 54 productions that generated THB174.75 million compared to 70 productions that circulated THB201.63 million during the same month last year.
The 54 productions were categorized as 21 advertising spots/public relations, 15 documentaries, six each TV programmes and featured films, five music videos, and one TV series.
India also led the field in October with 10 productions followed by nine from Europe, eight from Japan, three each from South Korea, UK and Taiwan, two each from China and US, one each from Hong Kong and Australia, and 12 from others.
Promoting film shoots is the task of a department under Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports with the objective of gaining publicity and awareness that will encourage more travel to the country.
