HONG KONG - Commencing on 14 December, Hong Kong Airlines will be operating the first and only direct flight service between Hong Kong and Kumamoto, Japan. Recently, Mr. Ikuo Kabashima, Governor of Kumamoto Prefecture and his delegation specially visited Hong Kong Airlines’ headquarters and was warmly welcomed by Mr. Sun Jianfeng, Vice President of Hong Kong Airlines. Both parties presented with commemorative souvenirs and held a fruitful discussion on further strengthening closer ties between the two cities to foster growth in tourism and economic development. During the visit, Mr. Ikuo Kabashima extended his personal invite to Hong Kong Airlines in joining him to celebrate the establishment of the Kumamoto Prefectural Hong Kong Representative Office.

Mr. Ikuo Kabashima expressed his appreciation of Hong Kong Airlines’ first direct flight service between Hong Kong and Kumamoto, enabling more local travellers and Japanese businessmen to travel more flexibly and conveniently to Hong Kong and promote local fresh agricultural and marine products. On the other hand, with the famous “Mount Aso”, one of the world's largest active volcanoes, and the rise of “Kumamon”, the official black bear mascot of the prefecture, Kumamoto is becoming another popular destination in Japan among Hong Kong travellers. This will further promote the tourism development in both cities.

Mr. Sun Jianfeng, Vice President of Hong Kong Airlines said, “We sincerely thank Governor Mr. Ikuo Kabashima for their full support in the establishment of this Hong Kong Airlines direct flight. With more and more Hong Kong travellers visiting Japan, subsequent to the introduction of the first and only direct service to Kumamoto and our existing scheduled flight service to Kagoshima and Miyazaki, a strong connection would be formed among Hong Kong, Kagoshima, Miyazaki and Kumamoto. Passengers can now choose to arrive and depart freely within these three major cities in Kyushu. We believe greater synergy will be achieved to effectively improve passenger flow in Hong Kong and Kyushu, offering more diverse options for both business and leisure travel.”

Mr. Ikuo Kabashima also officiated the Opening Ceremony of the Kumamoto Prefectural Hong Kong Representative Office to announce its official operation in Hong Kong. He added that the Hong Kong office will act as the information centre for the prefecture, to collect and provide a wide range of market and cultural information, and further promote a wide variety of agricultural and marine products produced in Kumamoto.
