Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) unveiled the 2016 Queensland calendar of events, featuring Australia’s best live events staged in the best destinations.
Commencing in January, the It’s Live! in Queensland calendar incorporates 116 events across Queensland.
TEQ Chairman Bob East launched the calendar which includes marketing campaigns throughout New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland starting this weekend.
“We want to inspire the world to experience the best address on earth and this campaign is a key part of that effort,” Mr East said.
“The It’s Live! in Queensland brand, produced and delivered by TEQ, will be promoted across print, TV, outdoor, digital and social media channels."
“Events featured on the calendar are expected to generate up to $460 million in direct spending in Queensland’s destinations in 2016 and deliver two million visitor nights.”
TEQ CEO Leanne Coddington said the 2016 Queensland calendar of events and It’s Live! in Queensland marketing platform were about delivering the world’s best destination-focused events calendar.
“The 2016 calendar features a number of new events including the Medieval Power: Symbols & Splendour exhibition and IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship alongside other iconic Queensland events from the Brisbane International to the Birdsville Races,” said Ms Coddington.
“A highlight of the new calendar is the 2016 World Science Festival, to be held in Brisbane next March, which was also launched today as part of the It’s Live! in Queensland campaign."
“Brisbane is the only city in the Southern Hemisphere to host the prestigious World Science Festival, which is a major visitor drawcard in 2016 expected to deliver around 27,000 direct visitor nights.”
Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said major and significant events were worth more than $100 million to Brisbane and hosting events such as the World Science Festival, one of the world’s most prestigious scientific and cultural festivals, was key to growing the city’s event offerings.
“Under the Brisbane 2022 New World City Action Plan, we aim to develop one significant drawcard event per month and the World Science Festival is a wonderful example of an international event that will attract visitors to Brisbane and showcase the city as an Asia Pacific science, technology and innovation hub,” Cr Quirk said.
Professor Suzanne Miller, CEO and Director of the Queensland Museum, said Queensland Museum is ‘all systems go’ for presenting next year’s inaugural World Science Festival Brisbane.
“We have announced some of our program highlights today; including signature events coming to us exclusively from the New York festival, but many more participants and events will be announced over the coming months so our dedicated festival website is really the information hub for festival goers in the countdown to March,” Professor Miller said.
“World Science Festival Brisbane is a key element to the Queensland Museum contribution to the Government's Advance Queensland initiative, bringing science to a very broad range of audiences – there will be amazing events for everyone to enjoy; a celebration of innovation and human endeavour, and a wonderful opportunity to showcase the world-leading scientific research happening right here in Queensland."
“We are thrilled to be working with Tourism and Events Queensland and the It’s Live! in Queensland initiative to promote the World Science Festival Brisbane.”
