HO CHI MINH CITY Air New Zealand will launch its first service between Auckland and Ho Chi Minh City, in June, next year, as part of its plan to expand in the ASEAN region.
According to the airline’s website, the Auckland – Ho Chi Minh City route will be the carrier’s first-ever nonstop service to Vietnam.
The airline will operate a three weekly service, but only on a seasonal basis, operating from June to October in 2016, with the potential to expand the season in subsequent years, it said.
inside no 4With a flight time of around 11 hours, the direct service will be operated by a Boeing 767-300 aircraft, with fares going on sale in early 2016, subject to government and regulatory approvals.
With the addition of the Ho Chi Minh City service, Air NZ will fly to 30 international destinations.
Air NZ said there was potential to expand the service if demand was robust.
Air NZ currently is cooperating with Singapore Airlines to bring passengers to Vietnam while it serves the Auckland-Singapore sector with its own aircraft.
Vietnam is becoming a popular holiday spot for New Zealanders, besides Thailand or Indonesia’s Bali.
New Zealanders visiting Vietnam rose to 15,000 in 2014, up from 12,400 a year earlier, according to Vietnam News Agency.
